3 Ways to Get Ahead at Work Using Your Wardrobe

Find out 3 ways to use your wardrobe to get ahead in your career from Chicagoland's Top Image Consultant & Personal Stylist.

In today’s world, it doesn’t matter what industry you’re in it’s gotten incredibly competitive out there and we have to put in extra effort to set ourselves apart. I’ve worked with a number of clients the past couple of weeks that have taken their personal style and image on as part of their competitive edge technique. Often times many individuals forget that what they wear, and how they show up is a huge component to their personal brand. So, how can you use your wardrobe to get ahead in work situations?

1) Dress for the job you want, not the job you have
I’m sure you’ve heard that saying before (probably more than once), but I bring it up because I’ve noticed this thought process has been put on the back-burner and I think it’s time to bring it back! Plus, it’s just plain true. If you want to get ahead, it’s about looking like a pro that gives you that extra edge.

2) Don’t forget the details
You’ve probably heard this one too, ‘it’s all in the details.’ This rule applies to more than your personal style and image. It’s crucial not to forget about the ‘little things.’ Those little things can leave lasting impressions. Things like grooming details (nails, hair and makeup), scuffed shoes, you get the picture!

3) Find your “thing”
Like I’ve said before, you are your brand. Whether you’re a business owner or in a corporate position, you have a brand that’s all you! Figure out what it is that’s your “thing.” Is it a particular accessory? A color? Whatever makes you feel confident and you feel represents YOU. Remember we want our style and image to represent what we do, what we want to do, and who YOU are.

What do you do to have a competitive edge with your personal style and image?
