8 Kane Co. Students Vie For Scripp's National Spelling Bee Spot

Two St. Charles elementary school students will compete in the Kane County Spelling Bee Final next week.

GENEVA, IL – Eight students from Kane County area schools have qualified to compete in the Kane County Spelling Bee Final for a spot in the Scripp’s National Spelling Bee. The Kane County final will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Kane County Regional Office of Education, 28 N First Street, Geneva, IL.

The eight students competing are:

  • Nicholas DeLeon, Our Lady of Good Counsel, Aurora
  • Benjamin Fender, Holy Cross Catholic School, Batavia
  • Liza Kadyschuk, Thompson Middle School, St. Charles
  • James Kennedy, St. Patrick Elementary School, St. Charles
  • Pranav Kollu, Cambridge Lakes Charter School, Pingree Grove
  • Shiv Patel, Hampshire Middle School, Hampshire
  • Aaditya Sanghavi, Glenbrook Elementary School, Streamwood
  • Grace Soh, Dundee Middle School, West Dundee

Sponsored by the Dunham Fund and the Kane Excellence in Education Partnership, the winner and their family will be flown to Washington, D.C., to compete in the National Spelling Bee, according to a news release. The spelling bee will be held from May 27 to June 1, 2018.

During the week, they will tour the United States Capitol, enjoy an awards banquet, and join the competition for a chance to be crowned the 91st champion of the National Spelling Bee, according to a news release.
