Vero Voce School of Visual and Performing Arts adds French Horn teacher Katie Johnson to its faculty

Vero Voce School of Visual and Performing Arts continues the expansion of its faculty with the addition of French Horn teacher Katie Johnson. Located in Saint Charles, Vero Voce offers private lesson and classes in voice, all instruments, theatre and art. 2013 will see the introduction of dance classes.
From classical to contemporary and everything in between, hornist Katie Johnson has been an active performer of chamber music, solo repertoire, and orchestral literature, and brings these skills to her teaching. She recently completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she also completed a Masters of Music. Interested in researching all aspects of horn performance and history, Katie’s M.M. and D.M.A. lecture recitals focused on the historical performance practices of the hunting, Baroque, and hand horn and her M.M. recital focused on contemporary works for horn.
Ms. Johnson was selected to attend the Aspen Summer Music Festival in Aspen, Colorado, the Kent/Blossom Music Festival in Kent, Ohio, and the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colorado. As an orchestral musician, Johnson has performed under the batons of such notable conductors as David Zinman, James Conlon and Carl Topilow and she continues to find orchestral performance a thrilling and deeply necessary part of her musical life.
Johnson credits passionate teaching as being her most important musical outlet. In addition to joining the Vero Voce faculty in St. Charles, she maintains her position as Instructor of Horn at Maranatha Baptist College, in Watertown, Wisconsin where she works with students of diverse interests and abilities. Johnson believes the most important lesson she has learned from being an educator is that each student has individual needs and requires a unique teaching approach. Therefore, she has developed a teaching style that adjusts to the individual needs and requirements of each student and finds teaching young and old musicians alike to be a great joy and honor.
“We know that horn students of all levels will find an exception teacher in Katie Johnson and are so pleased that we can offer her talents through our private lessons program,” states Dawn Harkins, managing director of Vero Voce.
Vero Voce was established in 2001 and recently expanded into a 5,000 square foot facility with multiple studios and classrooms including a 1200 square foot black box theatre which is available for rent at 951 State Avenue, Suite F, in Saint Charles.
