St. Charles Candidate Filings End for April 9 Election

Four candidate vie for St. Charles mayor, 10 more for five aldermanic seats; eight file for four Board of Education seats; five seek four Park District Board seats.

The candidate filing period closed at 5 p.m. Wednesday, and with four candidates for St. Charles mayor, 10 for five aldermanic seats, eight for four seats on the St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 Board of Education, and five for four seats on the St. Charles Park District Board.

The passing of the deadline firms up the ballot for the April 9, 2013 consolidated general election, although the number of candidates could be pared down should there be any successful challenge to the candidates nominating petitions. The deadline for filing those challenges is Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013.

Municipal Races

Each of the four who have filed for St. Charles’ mayoral race already had declared their candidacies prior to the election filing deadline. They are John E. Rabchuk, Ward 3 Alderman Raymond P. Rogina, Jotham S. Stein and Jake “Wayne” Wyatt.

In the aldermanic races:

  • Ward 1: Alderman Jon Monken will face Ron Silkaitis and Justin Osborne.
  • Ward 2: Alderman Clifford X. Carrignan will face Arthur J. Lemke.
  • Ward 3: Alderman William Turner will face Mario J. VanDerHeyden.
  • Ward 4: No candidate filed to contest Alderwoman Jo Krieger’s re-election bid.
  • Ward 5: Alderwoman Maureen Lewis will square off with Kimberly A. Malay.

St. Charles Community Unit School District 303

Four incumbents and four newcomers will square off for the four seats at stake in the race for four seats on the St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 Board of Education. The candidates are include: Steve Spurling (i), the board’s president; James Conro; James Gaffney Jr. (i); Mike Vyzral (i), the board secretary; Corinne Pierog (i); Nancy Muzzey; Richard Leidig Jr.; and Edward McNally.

St. Charles Park District Board

Five candidates have filed for the four seats up for election in the St. Charles Park District; three of the candidates are incumbent (i) members of the board.

The candidates are Vanessa Bell-LaSota; Jean Cabel (i); Bob Carne (i), who serves as the board treasurer; Brian Charles; and Karssten Goettel (i), who serves as the board’s president.
