Excavation In South Elgin Yields No New Leads in Kianna Galvin Case: Prosecutors

Investigators searched a Revere Road property after ground-penetrating radar detected anomalies beneath the surface, authorities said.

SOUTH ELGIN, IL — Investigators conducting a forensic excavation this week at a South Elgin residence found no human remains or new leads in the decade-old disappearance of Kianna Galvin, authorities said.

The South Elgin Police Department and the Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force carried out the excavation Thursday at a home in the 800 block of Revere Road as part of the ongoing investigation into Galvin’s 2016 disappearance, according to an update Friday morning from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

The search was prompted after ground-penetrating radar detected anomalies beneath the surface that investigators believed warranted additional examination, according to prosecutors. The Kane County Office of Emergency Management assisted in securing the scene during the operation.

Galvin was 17 years old when she disappeared on May 6, 2016. Police said she told her sister she was going to nearby Jim Hansen Park before vanishing, and her whereabouts remain unknown, according to authorities.

Officials said the case remains active despite the unsuccessful excavation.

Mosser said in a statement. “We will continue to pursue every credible lead and stand with Kianna’s family as this investigation moves forward.”

Authorities said no additional information is being released because the case remains an open criminal investigation, and no further public updates related to the excavation are expected.
