City of St. Charles' Portion of Property Taxes in an 8-Year Deep Freeze

Since 2009, the city has kept their tax levy flat at less than 10%.

Responsible financial stewardship has kept St. Charles' operating tax levy flat since 2009. The City is continuing that streak as aldermen unanimously approved another frozen operating levy at the Dec. 5 City Council meeting.

The City’s portion of your property taxes is less than 10 percent of your entire property tax bill. On a $300,000 home, that means $881 pays for a full year of City services, including Police and Fire emergency services, street maintenance and 24-hr snowplowing, planning, engineering, economic development, and more.

St. Charles has shown that a municipality can hold the line on taxes while still providing professional, reliable services and a well-maintained infrastructure. So, when your property tax bill shows up in your mailbox in a few months, be sure to take a look at the two line items labeled "St. Charles, City" as you review your total bill.
