Downtown Restaurant Closes Due to Reconstruction at Nearby Szechwan Building
Rx Cafe shut down Feb. 1 because of complications from the construction.

A downtown cafe and bakery has closed its doors due to reconstruction taking place in an adjacent building that nearly collapsed in August.
Rx Cafe & Bakery, 113 W. Main St., shut down its operation on Feb. 1, according to the restaurant's website.
A message left with the restaurant, which specializes in American tapas and baked goods, was not immediately returned Sunday.

On Aug. 8, a support wall inside the Szechwan building, 117 W. Main St., buckled, prompting an evacuation. City officials said the building settling had caused a water pipe to burst.
Buildings on that block date to the 1850s. The 117 W. Main St. building was remodeled in 1988.
No one was injured but the restaurant has remained closed since the incident. Rx Cafe and the Steel Beam Theatre, both attached to the 117 W. Main St. building, had closed temporarily after the near collapse. They both reopened shortly thereafter.
It was unclear Sunday whether Rx Cafe would reopen.
