Downtown St. Charles Temporary Parking Lot Nears Completion

City says construction of 50-space lot along 1st Street is on target for completion next week.

Construction of a temporary parking along the Fox River near Main and 1st streets is on schedule for completion next week, according to the city.

St. Charles Development Engineering Division manager Chris Tiedt said Wednesday afternoon construction of the 50-space temporary parking lot, which started in late August, should be done soon.

Martam Construction Inc. is the contractor on the project, and early Wednesday afternoon was out with roller, compacting and flattening the material that will lie beneath the asphalt paving. At the same time, a small Bobcat front-end loader was on site, cleaning up the edges of the new parking lot.

“They should be wrapping up next week,” Tiedt said. “They are on schedule.”

According to the city, the project will include an asphalt walkway along the east side of 1st Street to provide access from Main Street to the parking lot. When it announced the project, the city also said the owners of the property, which is at the southeast corner of Main and 1st streets, will remove the chain-link construction fence and replace it with a new decorative fence.
