Drunken Driver Hits Pole, Causes Power Outage in St. Charles: Police

The St. Charles woman has been cited for drunken driving following the crash.

A 23-year-old St. Charles woman has been cited for drunken driving after she drove off 7th Avenue early Thursday and into an electric transmission pole, which caused a power outage on the northeast side of the city, authorities said on Thursday.

Alyssa Grindle, of 116 N. 3rd Ave. Suite C in St. Charles, was arrested for DUI following the crash at 12:39 a.m. on Thursday, said Dave Kintz, a deputy chief for the St. Charles Police Department.

The collision occurred while Grindle was traveling north on 7th Avenue at Division Street. She failed to negotiate a curve and drove into the pole.

The northeast side of St. Charles was without power following the crash for about an hour, city officials said in a Facebook post.

Grindle was also cited for improper lane usage and no insurance.
