St. Charles East Chooses New Boys' Basketball Coach

Patrick Woods has served as Athletic Director at Ridgewood High School in Norridge.

St. Charles East High School has picked a new head coach for boys’ basketball.

School officials announced Wednesday the addition of Patrick Woods, who previously served as Athletic Director at the Ridgewood High School in Norridge, to East’s sports program.

Pending approval from the District 303 school board, Woods would fill the spot left after school officials earlier this year chose not to retain former head coach .

Woods would become a member of the physical education staff at the school, according to information released by East staff on Wednesday. The former Athletic Director also was the assistant basketball coach for Triton Junior College.

Prior to his stint as Athletic Director, Woods was the head boys’ basketball coach at Ridgewood for nine years, and had previously coached at Naperville North and West Chicago high schools.

The decision by East High School officials to drop Clodi as boys head coach sparked a  in April and prompted a showing of support for the dismissed coach by of the program at district school board meetings.

Shortly after that change in basketball leadership, the district announced a review of East's policies and procedures. East’s Athletic Director announced his retirement in May, just a few days before the district released a report detailing, among other things, and an elaborate boosters program at the high school level. District officials have praised Krieg's work within the East's athletic program.

More recently, accusations of financial impropriety within East’s athletic program came to public attention in June; however, a by independent auditors did not find any wrongdoing.
