Elderly St. Charles Man Seriously Injured In DUI Crash: Police

An Aurora woman has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a Kaneville Township crash.

KANEVILLE TOWNSHIP, IL — A 75-year-old St. Charles man suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash over the weekend. Meanwhile, an Aurora woman has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a Kaneville Township crash that also injured her and a passenger in her vehicle. Police say Gigiola Akin, 28, of the 200 block of S. Lincoln Ave., and her passenger, Jose Garcia, 25, also of the 200 block of S. Lincoln Ave., were traveling north on Dauberman Road when their Dodge Avenger collided with a Ford F450 driven by Ronald Rehling, 75, of St. Charles, at the intersection with Keslinger Road.

After the crash, Akin, Garcia, and Rehling were rushed to Delnor Hospital with serious injuries.

The collision took place around 11:15 a.m., according to police, and closed the intersection of Dabuerman and Keslinger for eight hours as the Kane County Sheriff's Office worked with the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team to investigate the crash.

In addition to a charge of driving under the influence, police say Akin was also charged with disobeying a stop sign. The crash investigation is ongoing.
