“We’re very excited to offer this new musical comedy as a part of our youth ensemble programming,” says Education Manager Tracy Whiteside.  “This musical, set in the 1950’s, showcases a lot of Elvis hits, so it’ll be fun for teens to learn as well as for patrons and academy supporters to enjoy. Our students will be learning from some of the best in the area, as our directing, design and production teams are professional, accomplished artists in the Chicagoland area. Cast members are not only taught a show, but also receive skills training in singing, dancing and acting – one of the many benefits of participating in the FVR Performing Arts Academy.”

Director is Patrick Stinson of Plano. Patrick has directed and acted in many regional professional productions including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Singing in the Rain, Beauty and the Beast, Of Mice and Men, and more. He has worked with several Broadway and television stars including Jill Paice of Curtains, Lavon Fischer of Chicago and The Color Purple, and Hedy Burress of ER and Southland.  He has a BFA in musical theatre from Millikin University. Stinson has directed FVR Youth Ensemble’s Seussical Jr. and Sleeping Beauty.

Open auditions for ages 10-19 will be held on the Preservation Hall Studio Stage at Pheasant Run on Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 3:00pm - 5:00pm or Monday, August 15, 2011 from 3:00pm - 5:00pm. No appointment is necessary.

Interested youth should prepare and memorize a one-minute monologue and 16 bars of a song that best displays their talent. An accompanist will be provided, so children should bring sheet music. Everyone will be taught a dance combination at the audition; previous dance training is helpful but not required. Auditionees may also be asked to do a cold reading from the script. Everyone should bring a headshot and a resume to the audition.

The FVR Youth Ensemble is an exclusive, audition-only education program for the best and brightest young talent. Participants are responsible for memorizing lines, music and choreography. Members learn the craft of theater through the process of preparing for live performances. Youth Ensemble performances are produced, directed and performed on the Mainstage in the same manner as Fox Valley Rep’s professional theater productions.
