If you want to help an adult read and speak English, you will want to attend Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley's free tutor training workshop. It will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 11, 13, 18 and 20 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm at the St. Charles Public Library.
Once you complete training you will be matched with one adult student and tutor for one hour each week at a time and public location that is convenient.
You do not need to have a second language or a background in education to be effective. Adult students say that the best tutors are patient and good listeners.
