Fox Valley Marathon Fast Facts

Nearly 1,100 runners are scheduled to participate in Sunday's inaugural event.

What: Inaugural Fox Valley Marathon.

When: 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19.

Where: Race will begin at the intersection of Indiana and First streets in St. Charles before heading south down Route 31 into Geneva; cross the Fox River on the State Street bridge and wind along the river path through Batavia, North Aurora and Aurora before heading back through North Aurora, Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles. The finish line is located at Illinois and First streets.

Participants: Nearly 1,100 runners are scheduled to attend, representing 127 communities. Former St. Charles High School standout cross country and track runner Tera Moody, who placed fifth at the 2008 Olympic Trials in Boston, heads the list of entrants.

Event co-organizers: Craig Bixler and Dave Sheble, both of St. Charles.

Interesting notes: According to Sheble, approximately 25 to 33 percent of the runners will be participating in their first-ever marathon.

Other race-day information: In addition to the 26.2-mile marathon, there will be a Half‑Marathon and Fall Final 20‑a 20‑mile run designed for runners who are planning to participate in the Chicago Marathon Oct. 10.

Quotable: "Participating in a marathon takes a lot of commitment," Sheble said. "That's what makes the accomplishment so emotional and something worth celebrating. If it was easy, everyone would do it."
