Fox Valley Marathon Treads in St. Charles for Second Running

All three races will start in downtown St. Charles at 7 a.m. Sept. 18.

The second annual Advocate Dreyer Fox Valley Marathon, Half Marathon and the Fall Final 20 are planned Sept. 18 with all three races set to start and finish in downtown St. Charles.

The races will begin in waves starting at 7 a.m. at Indiana and South 1st streets and the finish line for all three will be at the west end of the Illinois Street bridge over the Fox River. The courses also will wind through Geneva, Batavia, North Aurora and Aurora.

Registration for all three races is sold out; more than 1,000 people participated in the three events in 2010. The full Marathon is a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon and no prize money will be awarded.

Winners will be recognized in the following categories for all three races:

  • Female, first place 
  • Male, first place male
  • Female, first place masters
  • Male, first place masters

The top three female and male runners in the following age group categories also will be recognized: 24 and younger, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75 and older.

Last year’s female overall marathon winner was Anna Siliciano and the female masters marathon winner was Karen Miki. Michael Iacofano won both the male overall and male masters marathon titles.

The female overall Fall Final 20 winner in 2010 was Tera Moody, a former St. Charles High School standout who placed fifth at the 2008 Olympic Trials in Boston and represented the U.S. at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Germany. The female masters Fall Final 20 winner was Sheri D'Hansel, the male Fall Final 20 overall winner was Steve Breese and the male masters winner was David Manikowski.

The female overall winner and masters winner for the Half Marathon was Joan Vitro; the male overall winner was Brian Grudowski and the male masters winner was Christopher Cook.

This year’s event also will include the Fox Valley Marathon Races Health & Fitness Expo 11a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 16 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 17 at , 101 S. 2nd  St. in downtown St. Charles.

The expo, which will include race packet pick-up for runners, is open to the public. It will feature exhibitors offering the newest designs in running gear and shoes, as well as the latest developments in sports, fitness and nutrition.
