As an Image & Wardrobe Consultant I'm often asked how to mix prints the 'right' way. Mixing prints is something that has sky-rocketed in the fashion industry trend-wise and I don't see the concept going anywhere too quickly. I tell all my clients the same 2 rules to mixing prints. These are my must-know tips that will take the stress away from mixing prints. Ready?
1) The print scales need to be different. In other words, have one item that has a large print and the other that’s small. Doing this allows for the prints to not compete with each other. Often times if they’re very close in size it can be a little too much on the eye, aka distracting!
2) They need to have 1-2 colors in common. When you have at least 1-2 colors in common between the mixed prints it helps them ‘make sense.’ It helps to create harmony in the look.
