Kane Co. Board Again Rejects Plans for Drug, Alcohol Treatment Center

Maxxam Partners LLC was looking for the OK to turn the former Glenwood School for Boys into a 120-bed treatment facility in Campton Township

KANE COUNTY, IL - For the second time in just over a year, the Kane County Board on Tuesday rejected Maxxam Partners LLC's special use zoning request to open a 120-bed alcohol and drug treatment center in Campton Township, the Elgin Courier-News reports. Maxxam Partners LLC has been seeking permission to turn the former Glenwood School for Boys, 41W400 Silver Glen Road in Campton Township, into a private pay alcohol and substance abuse treatment center.

The Kane County Board on Tuesday voted 14-9 against allowing Maxxam to move forward with their plans.

It is the second time the county rejected the request for the company to open a treatment center on the former grounds of Glenwood Academy in Campton Township. The county board voted down the request in March 2016. Two Zoning Board of Appeals committees also failed to recommend the request. Maxxam officials had said they would sue the county for violating the Fair Housing Act because people with addictions are a protected class under the act.
