Lisle Monks Sue Benedictine University Over Rights
The suit stems from 7 monks not being allowed to interview candidates or vote for Benedictine's next president.

Monks based in Lisle are suing Benedictine University officials in connection with the selection process of that institution’s new president, according to a Daily Herald report.
The lawsuit against the university’s board of trustees and board President William J. Carroll was filed Monday in DuPage County Circuit Court by seven monks from St. Procopius Abbey, the report stated. The complaint claims the monks were denied their school rights in several areas, including interviewing candidates and voting for Benedictine president, the report added.

Earlier this month, Michael A. Brophy was chosen to replace Carroll, who is retiring, as president, the report stated.
A Benedictine spokeswoman told the Daily Herald that the university hopes this lawsuit clarifies the institution’s bylaws as they apply to the monks.
