Man Charged After Firing Gun At Elgin Homes: Police

Eric Juarez was taken into custody following a brief pursuit with police Saturday night.

A West Chicago man was arrested late Saturday for allegedly firing a gun at two homes in Elgin, police said Sunday.

Eric Juarez, of the 200 block of Seneca Street in West Chicago, was taken into custody following a brief pursuit by police officers who responded to the area of the 400 block of Douglas Avenue in Elgin at about 11:57 p.m. Sunday after hearing multiple gunshots. They saw Juarez running and ordered him to stop, according to an Elgin Police Department press release.

Officers pursued him on foot and were able to apprehend him and take him into custody in the area of Plum Street and Center Street in Elgin, police said.

Detectives from the Gang Crimes Unit responded to the scene and began conducting the investigation. Officers conducted a search of the immediate area and located a handgun where Juarez was observed fleeing from officers, police said.

Officers also located two residences in the 200 block of Seneca Street that had been struck by gunfire, along with evidence indicative of discharging a firearm, police said.

Juarez has been charged with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, a class 1 felony; possession of a firearm without a FOID card, a class 3 felony; and three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a class 4 felony.

Juarez will appear in Kane County bond call Monday morning.
