Marmion Academy Grad Sentenced in Death of St. Charles Teen Who Fell From Vehicle
The Marmon Academy classmates were celebrating the last day of classes in the school's parking lot when the accident occurred in May.

A Marmion Academy senior has pleaded guilty to reckless driving in the death of his fellow classmate, Stephen J. Woodcock, who fell off the the running board of his car -- just days before both teens were set to graduate, the Daily Herald reports.
Jerrin Martin, 18, of North Aurora was sentenced Thursday to 30 hours of community service and 12 months of conditional discharge. Woodcock, 17, of the 4N 300 block of Booth Tarkington Street in St. Charles, died on May 13 after he was riding on the vehicle’s passenger running board, which is a narrow step fitted under the side doors of vehicles, when the crash occurred in the Marmion Academy parking lot.

Martin was driving at about 10 mph when he accelerated and then stepped on the brake while making a left turn, causing Woodcock to lose his grip and fall and hit his head, according to the Daily Herald.
Woodcock suffered a head injury and other apparent injuries, police said. He was initially treated at the scene by Aurora Fire Department Paramedics but then taken by helicopter to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove where he later died.

The accident occurred when students at Marmion, 1000 Butterfield Road, were celebrating the last day of classes, according to the Daily Herald.
