• Salt shortage forces a scramble in North Aurora and St. Charles (tricitiescentral.com) — St. Charles officials are preparing to pay 53% more for road salt this winter after a major state supplier skipped bidding, forcing the city to seek an emergency contract with Midwest Salt. The Committee of the Whole has recommended buying 3,500 tons, which would exceed the city's salt budget by more than $130,000 if the full City Council approves it.
