Pheasant Run Could Lay Off Remaining Staff Next Month
The first found of layoffs at the St. Charles resort could start this week, with more potentially coming in February.

ST. CHARLES, IL — All employees at Pheasant Run could soon be without jobs. Hostmark Hospitality Group first notified state officials in November regarding plans to lay off 149 employees starting on Jan. 12, according to an Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification report.
The company followed with a Dec. 30 announcement that 42 additional employees at the resort, at 4051 E. Main St., could be without jobs as early as the end of February, according to the WARN report.
Meanwhile, the resort has been listed for sale and will go up for auction Feb. 10-12. The online auction has a starting bid listed as $2 million. The resort is on a 18.3-acre site and has 293 rooms, according to Ten-X Commercial website.

In 2011, a foreclosure lawsuit was filed against the resort. At the time, attorneys for U.S. Bank and CW Captial Asset Management — which issued a $29 million loan in 2006 to the longtime St. Charles resort — claimed Pheasant Run didn't make payments for several months and now owes $28.5 million in principal, interest and penalties.
Then in 2016, the DuPage Airport authority filed a condemnation lawsuit to take over the entire resort, according to the Daily Herald. The lawsuit came shortly after the resort announced it would turn its golf course into housing. The DuPage Airport, at the time, had concerns over that plan since the airport abuts the golf course.

The airport authority later agreed to take over only part of the golf course behind the resort and adjacent to the airport, according to the Kane County Chronicle.
