2. The Greater St. Charles Education Foundation is asking for donations to help students get the most out of their education. The foundation sponsors grants and programs helping bridge the gap between government and public funding, allowing schools to buy state-of-the-art equipment and giving students the chance to participate in events that bring them closer together as a community.

You can learn more by visiting the foundation's website at http://www.stceducation.com/index.html

3. Boys in first through fifth grades interested in joining Cub Scouts can attend the first pack meeting of the 2011-12 school year from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in 's Community Room.

4. St. Charles School District 303 is asking parents to be patient with busing schedules due to major road construction through town. Students may arrive home later than normal, but your child's safety is the top priority of District 303's Transportation Department.

5. Interesting Fact: In 1981, Aug. 30 was globally named International Day of the Disappeared. This day is used to bring attention to the fate of individuals imprisoned under inhumane conditions whose whereabouts are unknown to their relatives and legal representatives.

Secret imprisonment is currently used in about 30 countries. Organizations such as Amnesty International use International Day of the Disappeared as a way to highlight their work, increase public awareness, and call for donations and volunteers.
