Proposed Developments on Agenda Tonight
City Council meeting begins at 7 p.m., followed by Government Operations Committee and Planning & Development Committee meetings.

Tonight the Planning & Development Committee will vote to approve amendments for a proposed west-side apartment complex north of West Main Street and Cardinal Drive on the property.
According to city documents the updated proposal includes a reduction of units from 407 to 331. Additionally all four-story buildings will be reduced to three-story buildings, a reduction of parking spaces from 786 to 526 and nixing the two proposed mixed-use buildings.
In the fall of 2011 St. Charles residents said te initial proposal packed too much into such a confined space. During that meeting residents and council members expressed concerns, including the number of apartments that would go on the 17 acres set aside for the development. They’ve already built office buildings on an adjacent part of the larger Corporate Reserves area and want to use a large portion of the remaining property for residential. Under the emerging concept plan, some of the proposed would be mixed-use or, in other words, contain some combination of retail and residential, with the majority of buildings containing studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Council, which meets prior to the Planning & Development Committee, will vote to approve an extension for development of the First Street Redevelopment Planned Unit Development. Council approved an extension in May until July 17, but according to city documents no building permits have been issued for any portion of the third phase of development. Council will vote on an extension to May 2013.
Prior to the planning meeting, council members will meet as the Government Operations Committee to approve funding requests for $588,100 for the St. Charles Mental Health Board.
