The Most Dangerous Intersections, Roadways in St. Charles

The St. Charles Police Department provides information on where crashes occurred in 2014.

Every year, the St. Charles Police Department analyzes crash data in the city to determine which roadways and intersections have the most crashes.

In 2014, police determined the most crashes occurred along Randall Road, East Main Street and at a variety of downtown intersections. Some of the top contributing causes to crashes at St. Charles intersections and along city roadways include: failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, improper lane usage, disregarding traffic signal, following too closely and failure to yield the right-of-way.

Here is a look at the top sites for crashes at intersections in St. Charles in 2014:

  1. Randall Road and Lincoln Highway (Route 38): 12 total crashes in 2014, one injury crash.
  2. West Main Street (Route 64) and 2nd Street (Route 31): 9 total crashes in 2014, six injury crashes.
  3. East Main Street (Route 64) and Kirk Road: 7 total crashes, two injury accidents.
  4. East Main Street (Route 64) and Lakeside Drive: 7 total crashes and five injury crashes.
  5. Randall Road and Oak Street: 6 crashes and three injury crashes.
  6. Randall Road and Prairie Street: 6 crashes and four injury crashes.
  7. South Second Street and Illinois Street: 5 crashes, two injury accidents.
  8. East Main Street and Dunham Road: 4 crashes, 0 injury accidents.
  9. East Main Street and Riverside Avenue: 4 crashes, 3 injury accidents.
  10. West Main Street and 3rd Street: 4 crashes, 2 injury accidents.

  1. 800 block of South Randall Road: 17 total crashes, five injury crashes
  2. 600 block of S. Randall Road: 10 total crashes, two injury accidents
  3. 500 block of S. Randall Road: 9 crashes, four injury accidents.
  4. 400 block of N. Randall Road: 9 crashes, three injury accidents.
  5. 2000 block of Lincoln Highway: 9 crashes, two injury accidents
  6. 1600 block of E. Main Street: 9 crashes, three injury accidents
  7. 4000 block of E. Main Street: 9 crashes, two injury accidents
  8. 3700 block of E. Main Street: 9 crashes, one injury accident
  9. 1900 block of West Main Street: 9 crashes, three injury accidents.
  10. 3800 block of E. Main St.: 8 crashes, four injury accidents.

The city saw an overall decrease in crashes in 2014. There were 918 auto crashes in 2014--the lowest number in ten years--compared to 1,021 in 2013, according to St. Charles Police Department data provided to St. Charles Patch. The city also saw an overall decrease in injury crashes in 2014.
