St. Charles Fire Department to 'Fill the Boot' for Fight Against Muscular Dystrophy
Department raised more than $8,000 in 2011.

Don't be surprised to see St. Charles fire fighters holding their boots out on the streets.
No, the city fire department is not facing a budget crisis. The fire fighters are helping raise funds to fight muscular dystrophy. St. Charles fire fighters will be filling their boots to collect money from motorists and pedestrians Aug. 3, 10 and 17 from 3-6 p.m. at the intersection of Randall Road and Main Street. All proceeds go to the local chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
In 2011 the St. Charles Fill the Boot campaign raised $8,392. This year the department hopes to raise $8,500.

“We always see an amazing show of generosity from local residents and commuters when we go out ‘booting’," Lt. Mike Neumaier, of the St. Charles Fire Department, said in a press release. "The individuals dealing with this illness are the real heroes they are the reason we come out each
year and why people continue to give during the boot drives."
MDA’s Fill-the-Boot program is supported by the International Association of Firefighters and non-union fire departments across North America. Last year, Fire Fighters nation wide raised more than $26.5 million for MDA research, equipment, programs, camps and more.
