St. Charles Fireworks Are On

Fireworks are on.

That was the word from the St. Charles Park District Monday morning.

There was as to whether or not the fireworks to mark the Independence Day celebration Wednesday would be able to be shot off due to extreme dry conditions. According to the Natonal Weather Service there has been approximately one inch of rainfall in the St. Charles area over the past 30 days. However, weekend storms provided enough moisture, combined with a planned watering of the launch area, to enable the pyrotechnics display to be safely shot, said Holly Cabel, director of the St. Charles Park District.

The fireworks extravaganza will be held July 4 at dark and can be best viewed at Pottawatomie Park or Ferson Creek Park, park district officials said.

Pottawatomie Park opens at 8 a.m. Picnic tables will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Concessions will be sold at River View Miniature Golf Course, which opens at 9 a.m. The concession stand will be open until 9:15 p.m.

Families can also cool off at Swanson Pool in Pottawatomie Park, which opens at noon for Park District residents and season pass holders and at 12:30 p.m. for non-residents. Daily admission fee for residents is $7 and for non-resident $10. The pool closes at 6 p.m. 

The Fox Valley Concert Band will entertain park user from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the amphitheater. Local favorite, Red Woody, rocks the stage in the historic pavilion from 6 p.m. to dark.
