St. Charles Man Comes Home to Burglar Fleeing His Residence: Police
The burglar broke into the home in St. Charles Tuesday afternoon and is still on the lam.

ST. CHARLES, IL - A St. Charles homeowner returned to his residence Tuesday afternoon to find a burglar running out of his home. The offender knocked over the resident while fleeing the scene and is still on the loose, police said Wednesday.
The St. Charles Police Department was called to the 700 block of Mosedale Street at 1:22 p.m. Tuesday for report of a burglary in progress. The resident told police he arrived home and noticed a car running, parked and unoccupied in front of his house in a posted no parking zone, according to a news release.
As he pulled into his driveway and opened his overhead garage door, he saw someone run out the back of the house, police said. The resident went to the running car, thinking that it belonged to the burglar. The offender knocked the resident over and fled westbound in a green older SUV.

The resident received a small cut to the elbow when he was knocked down and was treated by the St. Charles Fire Department. Investigators are working with the resident to determine what was taken during the burglary, police said.
It appears that entry was made by removing a window well cover and breaking a window into the basement. Nobody else was home at the time of the break in, according to police.

The offender is described as a male black who is approximately 5-feet 7-inches tall and weighing around 175 pounds. The offender was wearing a baseball hat and dark sunglasses.
Investigators are working with area police departments to determine if there are any similar burglaries that could be connected to the recent one in St. Charles, according to the news release.
Residents are reminded to keep their doors and windows locked, even when gone for just a short period of time.
Police said most residential burglaries occur in the daytime and residents are asked to keep an eye out for suspicious people or vehicles that are not familiar to the neighborhood.
