St. Charles Man Killed, Newlyweds Injured in 1-Vehicle Crash
The crash happened on Route 64 in unincorporated Virgil Township early Saturday morning.

VIRGIL TOWNSHIP, IL - A St. Charles man was killed following a one-vehicle rollover crash on Route 64 in unincorporated Virgil Township. The crash, which happened at about 2:10 a.m. Saturday, also seriously injured the driver and sent his wife to the hospital with minor injuries.
David Drewes, 35, of St. Charles was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened in the area of Route 64 and Fabris Road in unincorporated Virgil Township.
An initial investigation revealed a 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV was heading east on Route 64 when it left the roadway near Fabris Road after failing to navigate a curve. The vehicle rolled over and it appears the driver, Sean Tardy, 39, of Maple Park, and Drewes, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, were ejected from the vehicle, police said.

Neither Tardy or Drewes were wearing their seatbelts.
Tardy was initially taken to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb but was later flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The rear seat passenger, Kristie Drewes, 36, of Maple Park, was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital with minor injuries. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Kristie Drewes and Tardy were recently married, according to police, and Kristie Drewes was the sister of David Drewes.
The crash remains under investigation by Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team. No citations have been issued and deputies have not ruled out that alcohol played a role in this crash.
Route 64 was closed between Peplow Road and Fabris Road for about three hours while the crash was investigated.
