St. Charles North Student Wins Prestigious Art Award

ST. CHARLES, IL — A St. Charles North High School student has been picked for a national prestigious art award.

Emily Hartmann, a junior at St. Charles North, won a national gold medal in the 2022 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Fewer than 2,000 works nationwide were selected to receive a national medal, and Hartmann's photo, titled "GG," was among the top 1 percent of all entries.

More than 100,000 students submitted more than 260,000 works of art and writing to the recognition program.

"Her work was selected by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts for excellence in originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision," according to a news release from St. Charles CUSD 303.

Hartmann will now get to attend an awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 9 where she will be honored for her achievement, according to a news release.

Hartmann is the second St. Charles North student to ever receive the National Gold Medial. In 2019, Dylan Cabrera also received a National Gold Medal. Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have celebrated teen artists and writers from across the country, according to a news release.
