St. Charles North Team 6th in Heat at 2013 Penn Relays

This prestigious track and field meet is the largest of its kind and brings in only the best high school athletes from around the U.S. and internationally.

Five athletes from St. Charles North High School competed in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays on Friday and Saturday, finishing sixth in the latter run during the 2013 Penn Relays in Philadelphia.

The St. Charles North North Stars had one four-member team in each of the two events. Jack Feeney, Tyler Ingham , Connor Larson and Zach Kirby finished No. 6 with a time of 3:21.75 in the high school boys 4x400.

Three of the athlete also competed in the 4x100. Jack Feeney, Zach Kirby, Connor Larson, Josh Phelan ran that event in 43.83, finishing 54th in the high school boys events for large schools (schools with enrollment of 525 or greater).

Run since 1895, the Penn Relays are billed as the nation’s longest-uninterrupted collegiate track meet, although it has grown to include high school, youth, masters and even international competition featuring Olympians and Olympic hopefuls.

St. Charles North was one of just two Illinois high schools represented at the 2013 Penn Relays; Northern Illinois University in DeKalb was the only Illinois college represented at the event. According to the Penn Relays website, more than 22,000 entries were expected this year, about half in the high school competition. Attendance was expected to be more than 110,000 for the three-day event.
