St. Charles OKs Tax on Recreational Marijuana

ST. CHARLES, IL — The St. Charles City Council OK'd a 3% tax on recreational marijuana purchased in the city once the drug becomes legal throughout Illinois on Jan. 1. The Kane County Chronicle reports the council voted 6-4 in favor of implementing the sales tax.
City officials said that $1 million in revenue could be added to the city's coffers for ever $20 million in recreational marijuana sales, according to the article. The tax was approved during a Monday meeting and comes as aldermen are looking at allowing up to two recreational marijuana dispensaries in town, according to the article.
