St. Charles Police: Watch Out, We're Out In Force For Holiday
St. Charles police will have extra presence during the Thanksgiving period looking out for drunk drivers and enforcing seat belt laws.

ST. CHARLES, IL — The St. Charles Police Department is warning residents that they'll be out in force for the Thanksgiving holiday period as part of the Illinois Department of Transportation's Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program. Nov. 17 through Nov. 27, officers will be out looking for drunk drivers and enforcing seat belt laws, continuing the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.
"Fastening a seat belt takes only a second or two, and costs you nothing. Not wearing a seatbelt, especially during this Thanksgiving Holiday period, will definitely cost you a ticket at the very lease, or even worse, your life," St. Charles police said in a press release.
They're also warning residents that buzzed driving is drunk driving. "Driving 'buzzed' brings very serious consequences," they said.

Last year, 11 people died on Illinois roads during the Thanksgiving Holiday period, according to the press release. Police added that those fatalities could have been prevented if motorists wore their seat belts.
By wearing a seat belt, you're 45 percent more likely to survive a car accident and 50 percent more likely to avoid moderate to serious injury.
