St. Charles’ Richmond Intermediate Named Apple Distinguished School

School's integration of the iPad in the classroom was cited in bestowing the honors, St. Charles school officials said.

It’s integration of the iPad into the classroom has earned Rth St., recognition as an Apple Distinguished School by Apple Inc. for the 2012-13 school year. .

The school and St. Charles Community Unit District 303 announced the honors this week.

The Apple Distinguished School designation, the release states, goes to schools that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and education excellence. They also must “demonstrate a consistent vision of exemplary learning environments.”

“A major component of our curriculum is developing in our students the 21st century skills they will need to succeed beyond the classroom,” said Richmond Principal Ms. Rosa Ascharya. “These skills of collaboration, critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and creativity are enhanced by having technology as an integral part of instruction and our students’ learning.”

Richmond Intermediate School’s selection as an Apple Distinguished School, the release states, “highlights its successes in enhancing and extending teaching and learning with thoughtful and innovative implementations of technology.”
