St. Charles Summit 303 Mental Health Panel Moves to Final Phase

Steering committee says collection of input is complete and cancels Session No. 4; panel to finalize recommendations.

The steering committee that has been looking at mental health issues as they relate to school security in Community Unit School District 303 has completed its fact-finding efforts and now moves toward formulating recommendation.

Summit 303 on Mental Health — A Component of School Security has held three public discussion sessions and had a fourth one scheduled for May 23. But the committee deemed the fourth one unnecessary, School District 303 announced this week.

According to a release, the Summit 303 steering committee will pull together the general agreements and action plan, which will be completed at its next work session in early June. The topics covered in the three “community engagement sessions” in this year’s Summit 303 included:

  • An Overview of How Mental Health is a Component of School Security
  • “What Am I Looking For?” in signs that a neighbor or loved one might be struggling with a mental health issue
  • “Where Do I Go?” in the Tri-Cities area to access support for mental health issues.

School District 303’s Summit 303 has included the support of the St. Charles Education Association, the city of St. Charles, the St. Charles Police Department, the St. Charles Public Library, several faith- based community organizations and mental health and wellness organizations in the Tri-Cities.
