St. Charles Teen Charged in Armed Robbery at Elgin Gas Station

Ryan Witkus is charged with attempted armed robbery.

ELGIN, IL - An 18-year-old St. Charles man has been charged for allegedly holding up a gas station in Elgin earlier this month.

Ryan J. Witkus, of the 200 block of North Tyler Road in St. Charles, turned himself into the Elgin Police Department on July 15 and has been charged with attempted armed robbery with a firearm, a class 1 felony, according to an Elgin Police Department press release.

He is accused of entering the Circle K Gas Station at 460 S. McClean Boulevard in Elgin at about 8:07 p.m. on July 12, displaying a handgun and then proceeding to demand cash. The offender then fled the scene, police said.

The store clerk was not injured. Detectives from the Major Investigations Division conducted an investigation into the incident and through a follow up, identified Witkus as a suspect, according to Elgin police.

Witkus appeared in court on July 16 and has since been released from custody after posting bail.
