I’m ready for the weekend and all of the Independence Day fun that it brings! But before I dive into all of the red, white and blue events, I want to thank you for taking an interest in my blog. During the month of June, many of you participated in my LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago Greatful Giveaway! There were over 200 entries in the contest–one of my most popular giveaways to date! If you didn’t win this time, don’t despair…I will have more contests in the future.
In my Top Picks this weekend, you won’t want to miss out on Elgin State Bank’s Family Fun Day featuring Jim Nesci’s Cold Blooded Creatures. Additionally, I have highlighted several parades and fireworks displays in Elgin, Carol Stream, South Elgin, and St. Charles. Best of all, the events are all FREE or CHEAP! And if they ask who sent you…tell them The Mommy did!
DISCLAIMER: Although we are careful to report accurate dates and times as they are provided, we realize that sometimes we receive inaccurate information or events may be cancelled. PARADES & FIREWORKS DISPLAYS
Friday, July 4, 2014
Elgin, IL
Parade @ 9:00 a.m.
Steps off at the intersection of Slade & Douglas Avenues, proceeds south on Douglas into downtown Elgin and finishes at the intersection of Highland & Douglas Ave.
Special Note: This is one fantastic parade in a beautiful historic district of Elgin, which includes many trees (i.e., shade). If you have not seen this parade yet, I highly recommend it! Try to sit in the first half of the parade for prime candy collection and don’t forget a bag!
Fireworks: There are fireworks this year; however it is a ticketed event by the Grand Victoria at Festival Park, 250 Grove Avenue, Elgin ($5 for lawn seats). It has been suggested that you try to catch the fireworks from Riverside Drive Promenade or simply anywhere close to that area if you don’t want to pay the fee.
