• Kane County Forest Preserve District adds 33 acres to Bliss Woods preserve in Sugar Grove Township (chicagotribune.com) — A major expansion of Bliss Woods Forest Preserve protects the historic maple woods that originally gave Sugar Grove its name, preserving rare old-growth trees and wildflowers. Kane County’s purchase of 33 additional acres secures more of this nearly 200-year-old woodland for public use, links existing trails, and commits to cleaning up limited lead contamination while keeping most of the new land open to visitors.
   

• Judy Joyce Hahn (née Rath) (waupacanow.com) — Sugar Grove is mourning the passing of 76-year-old resident Judy Joyce Hahn, who died at home on October 16 after a battle with ovarian cancer. A devoted mother, grandmother, and avid gardener, she will be honored at a celebration of life and service on Saturday, October 24 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aurora, with burial in Wisconsin at a later date.
