TINLEY PARK, IL — The body of a 30-year-old woman was found hours after a car left the road and drove into a Tinley Park pond Monday night, officials confirmed early Tuesday.
The woman's body was recovered with the vehicle, Tinley Park Village Manager Pat Carr said. Officials have not publicly released the woman's identity.
Tinley Park Manager Pat Carr said the incident happened around 6:30 p.m., near the entrance to the Odyssey subdivision. Authorities knew at the time there was one person in the car when it left the roadway and went into a pond, Carr said.
A bystander attempted to reach the person in the car, but the vehicle sank too quickly, Carr said. Water rescue crews were on-scene for several hours working to recover the vehicle and the person inside. The vehicle was recovered just before 10 p.m., Carr said.
Carr said Monday night it was not immediately clear what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
