TINLEY PARK, IL — A smash-and-grab crew targeted a Tinley Park gas station in the early morning hours Sunday, police confirmed.
Just after 3 a.m. Sunday, four to five suspected with masks, gloves and sledgehammers entered Gas N Wash, 19420 Harlem Ave., Tinley Park Police Chief Thomas Tilton said.
The suspects destroyed five gaming machines, took the cash, then fled in a white sedan with no plates. There were no injuries to staff present at the time, Tilton said. Police would not confirm reports that staff hid in a bathroom during the incident.
Police spotted a possible suspect car entering I-80 eastbound from northbound Harlem, too far ahead to effectively pursue, Tilton said.
It's unknown how much money was taken, Tilton said.
No other towns were hit around the same time, he said.
