Two District 230 students represented Carl Sandburg and Victor J. Andrew High Schools and the State of Illinois at the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference in Indianapolis. Alan Wang from Victor J. Andrew placed 3rd in the Nation in Mobile Applications and 10th in Computer Programming Concepts. Justin McCurdy from Carl Sandburg High School placed 4h in Administrative Support Concepts.
Carl Sandburg and Victor J. Andrew High School students learn the value of business competition through the Business Professionals of America club. Students compete at two levels in order to advance to the National Leadership Conference. This year, the Area Leadership Conference was hosted at Victor J. Andrew and DeVry University in December 2013 and over 74 different competitions were offered in the fields of:
- Finance
- Business administration
- Management information systems
- Digital communication and design
- Management, marketing and communication
Some students at the Area Leadership Conference earned the right to compete at the State Leadership Conference in March in Oakbrook, IL. Over 700 high schools students attended this event. District 230 had TWO students advance to the National Leadership Conference this year. More than five thousand students from around the country gathered to compete, showcase their business skills and develop their leadership acumen in Indianapolis, Indiana. Alan Wang and Justin McCurdy represented District 230 and the State well.
