Caribbean Block Party HQ: What to Know Before You Go

The Basics

• When: Noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 21
• Where: Oak Park Avenue, between 171st and Hickory streets

Sunday's Forecast

Expect a warm day for the block party, with temperatures in the low to mid-80s, according to the National Weather Service. There's also a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

What's New

The 15th year for the block party will include these new attractions:

• Kidz Zone: This area will feature activities for children such as a giant sandbox, games, face painting and crafts.
• Sand Sculptor: Professional, award-winning sand sculptor Brian Turnbough create a Caribbean-themed sculpture specifically for the block party.
• 3D Chalk Art: Chalk artist Shaun Hays will put on a speed chalk demonstration during the event.

Food and Entertainment

Local eateries, such as Durbin's, Ed & Joe's, J.W. Hollstein's, the VFW and the soon-to-open Caribbean restaurant El Coco Mio, will be selling food and beverages throughout the day.

Games and rides at the event include inflatables, mechanical swings, a giant slide, the Wacky Shack Fun House and a bean bag tournament.

Concert Schedule

NORTH STAGE

• Noon to 3 p.m.: The Hat Guys
• 4 to 7 p.m.: 95th Street Band

SOUTH STAGE

• Noon to 3 p.m.: Rockstar Rodeo
• 4 to 7 p.m.: Johnny Russler & Beach Bum Band

Car Show

When: Noon to 4 p.m.
Where: 173rd Street and Oak Park Avenue (enter from North Street)
Registration: Free. Begins at 10 a.m. No judging, but dash plaques and T-shirts will be given to the first 75 entries. Drivers' choice awards will be given.

Shuttle Service

The Village of Tinley Park will be providing free trolley service from 11:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. from the 80th Avenue Metra station, 18001 80th Ave., to 171st Street and Oak Park Avenue. Trolleys will pick up and drop off every 15 minutes. Kids younger than 13 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Go to the village's website for more information.
