Freedom Pond 'Designed To Have Wild Grass Appearance'
A public official in Tinley Park says the look of Freedom Pond will only improve now that a number of pipes are out of the way.

TINLEY PARK, IL — Freedom Pond, the fairly new naturalized detention basin at the northeast corner of 175th Street and Ridgeland Avenue in Tinley Park, is in good shape. Village officials responded to a recent "local question" on the Tinley Park Patch regarding the recent upkeep of the area around the walking path.
"It has been trimmed, even with the MWRD bypass piping in the way," Assistant Public Works Director John Urbanski said. "I drive past there every day and contact the landscaper when it starts looking bad."
"Now that the bypass piping is gone on Ridgeland their quality should only improve," he added.

A resident said who said that while the area is accessible, it appeared to be "neglected" and not trimmed around the walking path. But Urbanski said that the current look is well within the scope of what was designed.
"The embankment and bed of that pond is designed to have a wild grass appearance," he said.
