NEW LENOX – State Senator Michael Hastings (D–Tinley Park) met with New Lenox village officials on Monday to announce a state grant of $204,000 for the Old Plank Road Trail “Path Connections” project. The project will expand access to the Old Plank Road Trail from key locations throughout the region, including Providence Catholic High School, Village Hall, Village Public Library and many commercial, residential and industrial areas.
“Installing new entrance points along the trail will improve travel accessibility to and from businesses, residential neighborhoods and village services,” Hastings said. “Increased accessibility can foster new growth in the community and may encourage residents to leave the car parked in favor of a scenic walk or bike ride.”
The investment was funded by the Illinois Jobs Now! plan, a $31 billion construction program initiated by lawmakers in 2009 to support new and existing infrastructure projects across the state.
