KSD 140 and Andrew High School Team Up in Literacy Initiative

D140 elementary teachers are getting a literacy assist from Andrew High School athletes who will be visiting schools this spring to read with PreK through second grade students.

The outreach was initiated by Andrew Athletic Director Kevin McKeown and welcomed by KSD 140 administrators who were impressed by Andrew’s desire to have their athletes model leadership and good citizenship both on and off the field.

“This partnership is a great way to build positive community connections and promote reading in our schools,” stated KSD 140 Assistant Superintendent Shawn Olson.

Members of Andrew’s Varsity Athletic Leadership Team (VALT) are scheduled to read in all five D140 elementary schools on Wednesdays during February through May.
