Making a Splash: D140 Supports Special Olympics Illinois

District Polar Plunge Team Fundraising Tops $50,000

KSD 140’s Polar Plunge team braved the icy waters of Lake Manteno on Saturday, March 7, raising more than $50,000 to support athletes through Special Olympics Illinois.

Led by educators Kristy Baumgartner, Chrisie DeCarlo, and Ashley Krizik, along with committee members representing each of the district’s seven schools, 76 participants took the plunge in a show of school spirit and community support. Their efforts earned top honors for both individual and team contributions and helped the district surpass $300,000 in total fundraising since its Polar Plunge participation began.

“Our Polar Plunge team continues to honor our dear colleague, Laura Cler, and show what makes D140 so special,” said DeCarlo. “The generosity, school spirit, and commitment displayed by our staff, students, and families truly make a difference for Special Olympics athletes.”

This year, the district also introduced two Cool School Plunges, giving middle school students and staff the opportunity to take the icy leap at their own schools. Together, the Grissom and Prairie View communities have raised more than $61,000 for Special Olympics Illinois, a milestone the district proudly celebrates.
