Menace II Society -- Suburban Toughs Knock Down Mailboxes, Get Lippy With Cops: Police

The drunken young men and women were charged with vandalism.

A group of suburban toughs from the mean streets of such towns as Arlington Heights and Downers Grove knocked down a bunch of mailboxes and then got lippy with the cops, police said.

A 23-year-old local woman called the police and told them she heard a “loud bang outside of her residence” and “went out to see what it was,” police said.

“She could hear people yelling and laughing to the southeast,” police said. “She followed the curve and saw a group of six males and two females (on Sandy Lane) knocking down and damaging several mailboxes while they traveled toward Harlem Avenue.”

The woman continued to tail the group and the cops caught up with her — and them — at the Shell Station at 171st Street.

“They were all intoxicated,” police said of the young men and women.

“They admitted to drinking and revealed their destination to be the Oak Park Avenue bars,” police said. “They all admitted to have been coming from the direction of the damaged mailboxes” but denied doing the damage themselves.

“The group was very uncooperative,” police said, and three of the men were particularly annoying.

“While we were interviewing the group, Bryan Schuelin, Anthony Martz and Chad Novak became irate and belligerent,” police said. “They removed their cell phones from their pockets and proceeded to videotape us. They then started to yell in our faces and seemed to be trying to incite us into a use of force situation.”

Despite how obnoxious the drunken men and women were, the cops did nothing more than cite them for vandalism and send them on their way, police said.

“Due to the preponderance of the evidence that the group was conducted in a mob group mentality, all the members of the group were issued local ordinance citations for vandalism and they were released,” police said

“They proceeded to stay on scene and show us their middle fingers while they voiced their disdain for law enforcement.”
