Andrew Student Council Makes Prom Special for Kennedy Students

Victor J. Andrew Student Council members and the Kennedy School have a 25-year tradition that is cherished by all.

Tinley Park, IL – Prom took place at the St. Coletta’s Kennedy School on Friday, April 12. With the help of Victor J. Andrew High School Student Council members, it was a day students will never forget.

Prom is a 25-year tradition that is cherished by both the Andrew High School and Kennedy School students. “Students talk about it, and they want to experience it,” Barbara Sopiarz states. Barbara, a science teacher at Andrew, has been a Student Council Sponsor for the past ten years. “Our students have big hearts and want to help make Prom special for the students at St. Coletta’s.”

From designing the favors and picking out the decorations to customizing build-a-bears for the Prom King and Queen, Andrew students go all out. “Our students bring a fun atmosphere and energy to the Prom,” said Sopiarz. “They transform the lunch room and dance the afternoon away!”

The dance floor was filled with students and teachers. They only stopped to crown the Prom King and Queen. When the newly crowned King and Queen took to the dance floor for their special dance, there was not a dry eye in the room.

“It really is a magical day,” Kennedy School Principal Dawn Angelini reflects. “It’s not just a dance, but a special moment in time just for them. The Andrew students do such a wonderful job of making this day all about the students and the memories that it creates. We are so grateful for everything that they do.”
