Sports Video Highlight Reel: For Titans, a Memorable Playoff Run

Tinley Park's girls advanced to their first sectional final before falling 1-0 to conference rival Lemont in girls soccer.

In a back-and-forth match that showcased the strengths of both teams, it only took one goal to decide the Class 2A Lincoln-Way West Sectional girls soccer title. Tinley Park fell to Lemont 1-0.

The first half came and went without any real scoring threats from either team. The midfielders and defenders controlled the tempo of the match as any hint of an Indian run quickly was snuffed out by Tinley defenders Jenna Rivera and Chrissy Hermann.

Things got more exciting in the second half. The Titans were awarded a free kick with 27 minutes remaining as Liz Kopecky was taken to the ground just outside the 18-yard box. The kick went just wide as Kayle Diddens tried to sneak it past the keeper inside the near post. Kopecky also ripped a shot that missed just wide right.

On the other side of the field, Lemont took 11 corner kicks in the second half and peppered Tinley keeper Alexis Boyer with plenty of shots, none of which found the back of it net. But in the 69th minute, Lemont freshman Kim Jerantowski snuck a long shot past Boyer into the bottom, right corner of the goal to put the Indians on the board. They protected their lead for the final 11 minutes as frequent substitutions and ball control would keep the Titans at bay.
