Tinley Park, IL: St. Coletta’s of Illinois is celebrating Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) during DSP Recognition week September 9-13th. DSP week, celebrated the second week of September, recognizes the incredible work and dedication of Direct Support Professionals. St. Coletta’s of Illinois employs 135 DSPs, many of whom work in the residential buildings caring for clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“Our DSPs are the backbone of St. Coletta’s,” states Executive Director Annette Skafgaard. “They are dedicated in the care that they provide, and they so often go above and beyond for the people that we serve. DSPs ensure that our participants have the necessary supports to live, work, and be a part of the community. We are lucky to have such an amazing staff, and we want to make sure that they are recognized and know that they are appreciated.”

DSPs are responsible for day-to-day care, which can include bathing, feeding, and dressing participants that need additional assistance, administering medication, driving to and from doctor appointments, jobs or activities, as well as money management. In addition, staff assist participants with cooking, household chores, and daily living activities. St. Coletta’s of Illinois owns and operates twenty-four Community Integrated Living Arrangements (CILA) and one Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) throughout the South and Southwest suburbs of Chicago.
